The focus of a deep tissue massage is realigning the deeper layers of muscle connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.
Deep tissue massage therapy is therapeutic as well as corrective, and done properly should cause neither excessive pain for the client nor strain for the therapist. Working deeply does not equate with working harder or with more effort, but is the result of specific deep tissue massage techniques combined with knowledge of the different layers of the body’s soft tissues.
Deep tissue work is not just about the amount of pressure used; its true intention is to work on all the layers of the body’s soft tissues and particularly the structure which covers and encases them – the fascia. Injury, illness or prolonged immobility can cause fascia to become stiff, hardened or stuck to adjacent structures. This in turn causes pain, reduced mobility and impaired function.
“I’ve been going to massage therapy for years but this is the first time I experienced a massage like this. I think I will make this my go-to place”
“The clinic is very calm, warm and inviting. Noemi is absolutely wonderful at deep tissue massage for tight and aching muscles”
“Very nice place. The staff are super friendly and the treatment is always A+. Me and my SO have done couples massages there and it’s always a hit with her. Will be back again.”
“Each time was amazing. But the Thai massage was especially good. Highly recommend this place. They really have great therapists.”
“I’ve been going to Integrated for a few years. I have had a chance to see several different massage therapists, as I often book on short notice, and everyone has always been wonderful.”
Portions of a treatment can be uncomfortable at times with the possibility of pain, however, a good Edmonton massage therapist should always respect your pain tolerance levels, and will work with you to find a level of pressure that is comfortable for you.
Deep tissue massage is ideal for people with chronic pain, muscle stiffness, sports injuries, or postural issues. It’s also beneficial for those who experience frequent muscle tension from stress or physical activity.
Unlike relaxation massage, which focuses on lighter pressure and general relaxation, deep tissue massage targets deeper muscle layers and connective tissues to relieve chronic pain and muscle tension. It uses firmer pressure and slower movements to achieve lasting results.
