What is Hawaiian Lomi lomi?
Hawaiian Lomi lomi is a unique form of massage therapy that very few registered massage therapist in Alberta are trained in it. It is one of the oldest and most powerful forms of healing. It was developed by the ancient Polynesians and perfected by the master healers of Hawaii.
A fundamental assumption of Huna, the Hawaiian philosophy, is that everything seeks harmony and everything seeks love. When harmony is lacking, physical, mental, emotional or spiritual pain results. All of these manifestations of pain are states of tension caused by resistance that blocks the movement of energy.
The term Lomi lomi simply means “massage”. Lomi lomi is also known as “Loving Hands” massage because it works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing and rhythmic motion using forearms and arms, nurturing the body and enabling the recipient to relax, give in and simply be.
Full and under-body strokes as well as moderate stretches, gentle rotations of the joints and remedial deep tissue work are incorporated to assist the flow of energy and the release of tensions, restoring the body to its correct rhythm and balance.
For the first session it is recommended that you book two hours to allow time to have the entire body treated. Subsequent sessions can be ninety minutes.
Kahi Loa means “Great Fire” or “Great Oneness”. Another traditional form of hands-on healing, it is different from regular massage in that the client can be fully clothed, no oil is used, and the body can be treated in any position – standing, sitting, or reclining.
It is a gentle, light touch of the physical and energetic body with the intention of purification and restoring the freedom and balance of energy flow.
